what’s going on:

Help us go to the missing, love the marginalized, & live as God’s kids:

Worship Night @ The Gladstone.
"What's the Gladstone?" you ask. Well, it's a house in Mariemont (off of Grace Avenue) that five guys from Northstar chipped in to purchase and to share for ministry. It is the location of our young adult mission group/ministry and will be used to host worship nights from time to time. The next evening will be on Wednesday August 27th at 7pm. One night a month we're devoting the evening to God through worship as a community. There will be no agenda, personal ministry, or childcare. Children are welcome! Just come to worship.

Psalm 95: Oh come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!

For directions please use Mapquest or call. Questions please call Brian Roselli @ 513-833-5692

The Gladstone: 6909 Grace Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45227

Baptisms and Baby Dedications.
On August 31, we'll be having our Family Celebration. This will be a time where all the kids will join us in the auditorium for a time of worship, baby dedications, baptisms, and a shorter message. If interested in being baptized or having your baby dedicated, contact Julie Hellyer for baby dedications (jhellyer@northstarvineyard.org) and Angel Webb for baptisms: (angel.webb@fuse.net).

Tough Financial Times – Fear of Foreclosure?
Gas Prices are still at record highs.  Is your consumer debt increasing as a result?  Are you trying to decide between credit card payments and utilities payments or keeping current with your mortgage?  Worse yet, has a reduction in work hours or a lay-off put you behind on your mortgage payments?  You don't need to face a foreclosure crisis alone!  The Generous Living Network of churches, to which we belong, has been exploring HUD approved, non-profit organizations that will help assist you with negotiations with your mortgage lender to avoid foreclosure.  Some of them even have assistance monies from the State of Ohio, if you qualify.  For more information, please contact Jim Yuhas at 677-1031 or jimyuhas@yahoo.com. All conversations will be held with utmost confidentiality.

"Just Jesus" Discussion Question: Starting on the week of April  6, go to our website every week to get discussion questions to go along with the past weekend's 'Just Jesus' Sunday morning talk. Great for mission groups, personal study, or 1-on-1 meetings.  www.golovelive.com

Outreach:
Support our Mexico Ministries from Loveland: during our Aug. 30 Saturday Morning Missions we'll be doing a giant free water outreach. The difference on this day is that all the labels on the water bottles will contain important Back2Back and JEM Ministry information. Our hope is to generate more awareness for these ministries and therefore help them in supporting the orphans they serve. Great for the whole family.  Meet us in the back left hand corner of the parking lot here at Loveland high school at 11am. We will serve for about an hour and then grab lunch together afterwards. (optional)

Does anyone work on cars? We're pretty desperate to find a few folks who would be willing to look at and work on cars. Many of the single mothers we serve have car problems that could easily be fixed by someone with minimal skills and knowledge. If you have any desire to help, please email David Smith back at dsmith@northstarvineyard.org or call at 575-3467.

Free Oil Change: We're looking to do a free oil change at Mason Way Towne Homes in Fields Ertel on Saturday Sept. 20 during our normal Saturday Morning Mission time slot. But to make this happen, we're going to need a big group of folks to lend a hand. We'll need people who can work on the cars and people who can deliver the equipment and materials we need to make the outreach happen. We'll also need a team of folks going door to door to invite people out and to remind them about the outreach. If interested, just email David at dsmith@northstarvineyard.org or you can call at 575-3467.

Yellow Bag Ministry: This past year we've seen the attendance at the Solomon Center almost double and therefore we're on pace to give out more food/toiletries than our budget will allow this year. Therefore, we're asking for help with this obstacle. To help, you can pick up a yellow bag any Sunday from the hallway rack by the info tables, take home, fill it up with what's listed on the paper sheet stapled to it, and bring back any Sunday morning. You can drop off the filled bags by the yellow bag rack. These items will help us in continuing to run the Solomon Center. Any questions: Contact David Smith, 575-3467, or dsmith@northstarvineyard.org

The Club: 'The Club' is a potential ongoing Solomon Program type empowerment program for Jr. High (6-8 grade) and Sr. High students. Jr. High and Sr. High students are in separate groups within the overall program. The program goes last six months every year. If a student makes it to 20 of the 24 'club' gatherings and meet all other requirements, the idea is that they would get $1000 deposited into a college fund that they can use for college only after high school. If a sixth grader enters the program and does it every year up until high school graduation, they will have $7000 dollars toward college, plus interest.

If a 9th grader enters the program, and does the program only their 9th grade and 12th grade years, they will then only have $2000 plus interest toward college upon graduation. (1000 per year)

Again, this is just the initial idea. We need more people to help us brainstorm and flesh out the details of the ambitious program. Contact David Smith if interested in helping pioneer this program. dsmith@northstarvineyard.org or 575-3467.

Have a need? Have something to share? Do you have a need or do you have available stuff or skills to share with others at Northstar? If so, go to www.arkalmighty.com and click on "Find my church." Once you do that, type in 'Northstar Vineyard Community Church.' You'll see all the needs listed from folks in our church while being able to list your own needs. You'll also see all the available skills and stuff while being able to list your own skills and stuff you want to share with others.

Saturday Morning Missions: You don't need to cross the globe for a mission-trip type experience. We go out every Saturday morning for about 50 minutes, meeting the practical needs of our neighbors. We meet at 11am in the NSV parking lot, left hand corner. We grab lunch at Fields Ertel Quiznos afterwards. Just show up. Questions, contact David Smith at dsmith@northstarvineyard.org.

The Solomon Center: we operate a free store out of MacArthur Park Apartments in Loveland every other Wednesday night. We provide free toiletry and food items to families in need. Enter through building 664 through the door on the bottom floor at MacArthur Park Apartments. If you are interested in volunteering, there are three ways you can get involved. 1. Filling up a yellow bag and bringing it back to church on Sunday. 2. Sign up to volunteer on one of the Wednesday evenings the SC is open. Contact Sandi Horine 652-1205, horines@ucmail.uc.edu

The Solomon Program: The Solomon Program is a six month empowerment program for individuals in our community who have been marginalized and need a little extra help. It runs from February to July every year. The participants go through 12 bible classes, 12 life courses, 24 hours of community service, 12 hours with their mentors, and do a final project. At the end, they get 3000 dollars toward education, housing, or transportation if they complete the requirements.  If interested in being a mentor or teaching one of the life or bible classes, let us know. The next group will be starting in February, 2008. Some of the life courses may include finances, car repair, resumes, parenting, relationships, and things like that. The bible classes will cover topics like salvations, grace, forgiveness, biblical relationships, sanctification, etc. Contact David Smith if interested. 575-3467, dsmith@northstarvineyard.org.

Solomon's HELP: we help with utilities, rent, food, and other items throughout the week for folks in our community who have physical needs. We will help people out with two free 30 dollar gifts over the course of a year. After two free times, we'll help them out with 4 more 30 dollar gifts, but they first have to join us on outreach or contribute in some other hour-long community service to receive each of those gifts. Volunteer by helping deliver food to folks in need and by helping meet other practical needs. Contact David Smith if interested. 575-3467, dsmith@northstarvineyard.org.

Community Care Network: join our on-call team that delivers food and services to folks in need in our outside community and church. Contact David Smith at 575-3467, dsmith@northstarvineyard.org

Picking up Solomon Center Supplies.
We're looking for a few folks with vans, trucks, or SUV's who will help us pick up supplies for the Solomon Center. We pick up the stuff from Biggs every other week and drop off the supplies at the Solomon Center in Loveland. Biggs has the supplies pulled and ready for us when we arrive. All we do is help them load them into our vehicle and then we drop them off the SC. You don't need to do it every time, sign up to serve as much or as little as you'd like.  If interested in helping, contact Greg Knake at 205-5864, gknake@northstarvineyard.org.

The Outlet: homeless ministry: Once a month we team up with One City Foundation to serve every 1st Sat. of the month at a ministry called The Outlet. It is a game room environment at the City Mission Gospel Building with ping pong, pool, board games, and food. We spend the morning hanging out, talking, and playing games with the homeless folks who visit. It's very easy and family friendly. Contact Greg Knake if interested: gregknake@fuse.net. 205-5864.

From Block Parties to Roller Skating to Free Movie Nights to Family Portrait Outreaches to Oil Changes to anything that will unite and serve the people of our community. We'll announce these up front at church and through other means. Contact David Smith for more info. dsmith@northstarvineyard.org

Mission Groups:
The Torah Club: starting week of September 8th.
The Torah Club is a Torah Study Program which is presented in a year-long volume and explores the Hebrew roots of Christianity.  It's designed around weekly Bible portions read in synagogues all over the world each Shabbat (Sabbath) and examines the origin of disciplines like baptism, communion, worship and prayer. Together we'll explore the Jewish meaning of grace, faith and holiness and discover the Jewish perspective on the coming of Messiah and the Messianic Kingdom. It's a great opportunity to rediscover the ancient roots of our faith with refreshing insights on the scriptures that Jesus read.

We'll begin meeting weekly during the week of September 8th and Individuals in the group will receive all of the written materials over the course of the year study and the cost is $12.50 per month. We'd love to have a group of 6-20 members and if you're interested please contact Greg Knake at gregknake@fuse.net or call at 513-205-5864.  For information about the Torah Club visit www.torahclub.org.

The Song of Solomon Series: hide the children!
Every wonder what God says about love, relationships, sex, and marriage?  Yes, He does address all these things in the Bible!!!  A little book called the Song of Solomon can answer all your questions and more.  But we must translate the Old Testament love lingo like what does it really mean when the man tells his wife "Your belly is a heap of  wheat." (We suggest NOT using this "compliment" unless you are going through the study.)

Married couples: Join Mike and Corrie Graham 7:00 on Tuesday nights for Tommy Nelson's 12 week study on the Song of Solomon.  There is a small fee to cover materials. If you need help with the fees, just let us know and Northstar can help.

Note: Song of Solomon was so racy and controversial, young Jewish children were not allowed to read it. Contact Corrie at 289-8119 or marsh1717@aol.com

Looking for a mission group? Just email David Smith at dsmith@northstarvineyard.org and let us know what kind of mission group you are looking for.  (couples, singles, mix, special topic, age range, area of town, nighttime, daytime, day of the week, etc.)
